The first phase of the International Mandela Day programme is underway with a project site tour led by the Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Ms Maropene Ramokgopa, accompanied by Eastern Cape MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Zolile Williams, O.R. Tambo District Municipality Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Thandekile Sabisa, and King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Mkhanyiseli Dudumayo.
The delegation is visiting the Mncwasa Water Supply Reticulation Project in Mqanduli, where completed infrastructure improvements will provide 95 households with access to a more reliable and sustainable water supply.
The project forms part of government’s commitment to improving basic service delivery and ensuring that rural communities have access to safe drinking water.
The project commenced on 26 January 2026 and was completed on 2 July 2026, with a total construction cost of R4 414 014.19 and 20 employment opportunities created during implementation.
